What’s better than combining romance with an excuse to visit an acclaimed scuba diving site?

A sure way to have a Valentines’ Day celebration you’ll never forget is to surprise your lifelong diving partner with a romantic diving trip, and heaven knows, there are plenty of amazing destinations to choose from.

Start your research – or just your romance-infused daydreaming – with these global spots that are sure to get you and your partner’s hearts racing.

Moorea, French Polynesia

There are 118 French Polynesian islands to explore, but Moorea stands out in the crowd for its vibrant turquoise seas, lush green hills, and a host of completely romantic bungalows that literally float over the water.

For diving trips, expect to see plenty of sharks – including blacktip, silvertip, and lemon sharks – which can be admired via carefully orchestrated diving trips. You’ll also keep company with butterfly fish, bannerfish, and schools of damselfish, which set a beautiful scene under the water.

Kona, Big Island, Hawaii

Kona is considered one of Hawaii’s top honeymoon destinations, which instantly ups the romance factor, but it’s also home to a host of sea creatures that can’t be found anywhere else.

Book a room at one of the region’s romantic resorts, and plan a Manta Night Dive for an evening that revolves around encounters with giant mantas with 16’ ft. wingspans. The ensuing trip will be much more memorable than any Valentines’ restaurant reservation, to be sure.

Fiji Islands

Thousands of couples jet off to Fiji every year to plan romantic proposals, destination weddings, or sunny honeymoons, and with more than 4,000 square miles of coral reefs, couples can enjoy some jaw-dropping diving as well.

Tear yourself away from those lazy beaches, and plan a dive trip to the world’s fourth largest barrier reef off Kadavu, where rays, sharks, and incredible soft corals are waiting. Click to learn more about diving in Fiji.

Phuket, Thailand

A good destination for couples and singles alike, thanks to miles of white beaches, emerald green waters, and a hopping nightlife scene, Phuket is also close to an amazing abundance of scuba sites that are breathtakingly beautiful.

Take a trip to Patong, Kat, and Karon, which are solid launching points to explore the underwater world, or spend a few days exploring the Similan Marine National Park or Koh Phi Phi – (where the Leo DiCaprio movie “The Beach” was filmed.) Want to learn more about diving in Thailand?

Mabul, Borneo, Malaysia

Yet another cool destination where you can find those romantic bungalows that are built over the water, Mabul is distinct for its miles of peace and quiet – perfect for late-night romantic interludes under the stars, or spending a peaceful evening soaking up the coastal breezes.

During the daytime, however, divers will find thrilling discoveries at nearby Sipadan, where barracudas, big-eye trevally, and giant bumphead wrasses thrive.
